  • The first half was almost a non-event, which Motherwell would have undoubtedly been happier with. Ryan Kent and Tillman could claim a couple of half chances, but the reaction to that record loss at Ibrox was not one the Rangers manager would have hoped for.
  • There was a small sign of intent at the start of the second half when Borna Barisic's cross found the head of Antonio Colak, but the Croatian uncharacteristically planted his header well wide.
  • Motherwell went up the other end and gave Rangers a scare when Kevin van Veen drilled a low effort to force a good low save from Allan McGregor. It was Well's first touch in the Rangers box all day.
  • However, the game eventually got the moment of magic it so desperately needed when Tillman picked up in his own half. Waltzing forward, he remained unchallenged before throwing his hips, dancing into the area and chipping over Liam Kelly.
  • The Motherwell mood deflated and Rangers thought the game was wrapped up when Lundstram nodded in from a Barisic corner, with a big help from the toe of Van Veen.
  • Motherwell's McKinstry didn't read the script, though. From a free-kick deep on the left, the Leeds United loanee curled the ball straight over the head of McGregor for his first goal in claret and amber.
  • But the goal wasn't the one he dreamed of, as it would only prove consolation as Rangers, who retreated to defend their slender lead, hung on.

  • It was another good result for Newcastle, who have now drawn with both Manchester clubs and have still only lost once this season.
  • Joelinton should have put them in front. De Gea was on the floor having tried to save the Brazilian's initial header from Kieran Trippier's cross, so all the Brazilian had to do was get his effort on target.

Sadly for the visitors, he did not manage it, just as Miguel Almiron rushed his second-half shot from a pre-planned corner routine and blazed it into the Stretford End when he had time to do much better.

  • Nevertheless, on a ground where they hardly win and have not even secured a point since 2015, this was one of Newcastle's better efforts.
  • Trippier in particular looked good, which is positive for Gareth Southgate given his recent bad news on the injury front for so many of his right-backs.
  • Certainly if anyone is going to gate-crash the established top six this season, Newcastle look like being the ones to do it.

  • The full-time whistle sparked wild celebrations from Arteta, with his side recording Arsenal's best league record after 10 games since the 1904-05 season.
  • Playing from the right-hand side, England midfielder Saka tormented Leeds' Struijk for much of the game and the only goal came via that channel.
  • Rodrigo inexplicably tried to pick out his team-mate with a cross-field pass which was pounced on by Saka, before a quick interchange allowed him to thump home his fifth goal of the season.
  • Gabriel Jesus chipped over from inside the six-yard box, while skipper Odegaard's free-kick was pushed away by the sprawling Illan Meslier.
  • Though Leeds threatened until the end, Arsenal managed to claim their fourth clean sheet away from home in a campaign which is full of promise.

  • Benzema led Real Madrid to the Champions League and La Liga titles last season in a campaign which is likely to win him the Ballon d'Or.
  • He has had a slow scoring start to this season though. His opener, to cap off a swift counter-attack, was only his fourth La Liga goal of the season.
  • The France international thought he had a fifth in the second half with a fine finish from outside the box - but he had not heard the whistle going for an offside as he celebrated with the home fans.
  • One man in flying form before Sunday's game was Barcelona's Robert Lewandowski, who like Benzema is 34.
  • The two-time Best Fifa Men's Player netted nine goals in his first eight games in La Liga following a summer move from Bayern Munich.
  • But he lacked the clinical finishing of Benzema this time out. Most notably he slid a cross over an empty net from close range and drilled a free-kick straight into the wall.
  • The Pole will score plenty more goals this season but for now Benzema showed he is still the top striker in El Clasico.

  • Pep Guardiola has confirmed coins were thrown towards him from the crowd during Manchester City's defeat at Liverpool on Sunday.
  • The instances occurred during the second half of a fiery Premier League contest at Anfield, soon after City had a Phil Foden goal controversially disallowed.
  • The strike would have given City the lead but they eventually went on to lose 1-0 to a Mohamed Salah goal.
  • Speaking about the matter in his post-match press conference, Guardiola said sarcastically: "Next time we will do it better. It didn't get me. They try it again next year."
  • It is not the first time there has been crowd trouble around games involving Liverpool and City at Anfield, with the rivalry between the two clubs having grown considerably in recent years.
  • In 2018, City's team bus was pelted with bottles and other objects as it arrived at the Merseyside ground for a Champions League encounter.
  • Reflecting further on the latest incident, Guardiola said: "All these coins, they tried, but didn't get it. They got the coach years ago."
  • Opposite number Jurgen Klopp had not been aware of the matter but apologised on behalf of the home club.

He said: "Oh, horrible. I am sorry. I apologise for that. I had no idea about it. It never should happen, never."

  • In a statement released by the club, Liverpool said: "We are aware of an incident involving objects being thrown into the technical area at today’s game. This is totally unacceptable behaviour and not the standards of behaviour we expect at Anfield. This incident will be fully investigated using CCTV and those found guilty will be punished, including a lifetime ban from Anfield Stadium and a possible football banning order."

  • Liverpool are interested in signing unsettled Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong, according to Spanish publication Fichajes.
  • The Netherlands international was strongly linked with a move to Manchester United over the summer, but the transfer window closed with the midfielder remaining in Spain.
  • United manager Erik ten Hag is still believed to be keen on bringing the 25-year-old to Old Trafford, but rivals Liverpool are now understood to be in the race for his signature.
  • De Jong has made 10 appearances for Barca so far during the 2022/23 campaign.
